Elementz is excited to have co-sponsored the Cincinnati Library Teen April Poetry Month Contest for 3rd year in the row. The month of April Elementz facilitated four poetry workshops at the Main, Wyoming, West End and Oakley branch led by Jori Cotton.
On Saturday June 6, 2015 the Cincinnati Main Library hosted the Poetry Contest award ceremony where the youth received their awards and shared their poetry. Elementz presented the 1st place winners in the 12-14 and 15-18 age groups with free memberships to Elementz. Congratulations to the two 1st place winners M.A. Kleier, poem “Starburst” and Zoe Lee, poem “Unlikeliness of Stars”.
Markayla Heidleburg, 2nd place Winner of the 15-18 group shared a very moving poem entitled “Where Our Boys At”. Her poem emphasized the violence that takes place against and between black boys. ” This is really serious/have you gone delirious?/Look it up, on the news/families’ got the blues”. Excited to write more poetry and perform Markayla’s grandmother purchased an membership on the spot and will join the Voices of Freedom class.
Elementz looks forward to this time year where students share their poetry works and compete for first, second and third place in the Cincinnati Library Teen Poetry contest.
