Elementz Youth & Parent Appreciation Dinner

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Written By Brother Abdullah:

Its still hard to believe that its been 3 years since Tiffany Suriah Harmon of Hip Hop Congress & I started this dinner to keep the spirit of family alive within Elementz. In past years the staff and I would simply bring dinner and desserts while having a DJ play some music but this year our dinner was an actual program.

Performances, poetry and story telling all occurred while a variety of food was served.  Elementz Executive Director, Tom Kent and I have been talking about bridging the gap between elders and youth so in formatting the dinner event we also scheduled in a story from  Mrs. Merelyn Bates-Mims who shared wonderful stories from her family’s heritage.

Overall what I enjoyed most at last weeks dinner was seeing youth and elders together eating and hearing each others stories. The following are pictures from last weeks dinner and program. Enjoy the pics and look for further coverage from this event in the near future.
