Elementz Announces Leadership Transition

President of the Board, Harold V. Howard announced that Abdullah Powell will step aside from his role as Creative Director effective December 31, 2020. Harold is pleased to announce that Powell will transition into a new role as a teaching artist and content producer.

“I can still remember my first days of experiencing Elementz back in the summer of 2005. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many youths, artists, and stakeholders over the years. They’ve helped me grow and I have also had some impact on many of them. Transitioning is never easy but I am encouraged by the next wave of leadership that is already here and hard at work. I am excited to pass the baton of program leadership to April Carr, who is admirably known to many as DJ Apryl Reign. April was a volunteer DJ instructor even before I started, so her experience with the organization will be a real asset to the Elementz of the future. I look forward to continuing to teach youth and produce content with Elementz while supporting April and the talented emerging staff.” – Abdullah Powell

“The Elementz Board would like to thank Brother Abdullah for his time as Creative Director. Elementz wouldn’t be where it is today without Brother Abdullah’s vision and leadership. His unwavering passion, commitment, and connectivity to young people have been instrumental in the growth and development of so many inner-city youths who are a part of the Elementz family.”Harold V. Howard, President of the Board

“For over fifteen years, Abdullah’s heart has been focused on all of the young artists who have passed through our center. He has steered Elementz on a path of increasing relevance in the Cincinnati arts community and his legacy as an agent of positive change for our youth will continue to reverberate for years.”Tom Kent, Managing Director.

April Carr steps into her new role as Director of Programming and Evaluation.

“The consistent driving force that contributes to my longevity with Elementz is my desire to connect and share the knowledge that promotes self-esteem in our youth by using creative arts as a platform. Watching them grow, gain self-confidence, and identify their voice has been a joy to see over the past fifteen years and I look forward to continuing and expanding this work in my new role.”
